  • 8–10 years of progressively responsible enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Hands-on with Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Juniper JunOS, or Aruba.
  • Experience with enterprise firewalls (Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower, Fortinet).
  • Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
  • ISE, SIEM integration (Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar).
  • Automation: Python, Ansible, Terraform.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team supporting the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) under the SENTRY Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). As a Senior Network Engineer, you will provide advanced engineering, architectural design, and technical leadership for CBO's enterprise network. You will be responsible for strategic network modernization, security architecture, and mentoring junior engineers. You will serve as a senior technical advisor to CBO stakeholders, collaborating with cybersecurity, cloud, and operations teams to resolve complex network issues and support audits, assessments, and compliance initiatives.


Key Responsibilities


  • Network Architecture: Design scalable, resilient, and highly available network architectures across CBO's Cisco-based environment, including core, distribution, access, and edge layers.

  • Zero Trust Implementation: Enforce Zero Trust principles through network segmentation, micro-segmentation, and least-privilege access controls; implement identity-aware network access mechanisms such as 802.1X.

  • Security Leadership: Lead security assessments, audits, and compliance reviews; provide evidence, documentation, and remediation support as required.

  • Perimeter Security: Manage perimeter security, firewalls, and public-facing network assets; implement strict ingress/egress filtering and firewall rule optimization.

  • Technical Leadership: Serve as senior technical advisor to CBO stakeholders; lead or participate in security assessments, audits, and compliance reviews.

  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain Network Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); review and update all SOPs on at least an annual basis.

  • Incident Response: Support incident response activities by providing network-level analysis, containment actions, and forensic data collection; perform root cause analysis (RCA) for network incidents.


Required Qualifications


  • Certification: Must hold a current CCIE or CCDE certification in Enterprise Infrastructure (or equivalent) that has been maintained for a minimum of 5 years. Expired certifications or certifications never used professionally will not be considered.

  • Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Tier 2 clearance (background check conducted through U.S. Capitol Police).

  • Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise network engineering.

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated hands-on experience with:

  • Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Juniper JunOS, or Aruba

  • Enterprise firewalls (Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower, Fortinet)

  • Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)

  • Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

  • Network monitoring and SIEM integration (Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar)

  • Cybersecurity Knowledge: Deep expertise in NIST SP 800-53 and Zero Trust Architecture (NIST SP 800-207).

  • Automation: Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.


Desired Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience with SD-WAN, cloud networking (Azure/AWS), and VMware NSX.

  • Experience leading complex network projects and mentoring junior engineers.

Must be eligible for a Public Trust Tier 2
