Job summary

The California Department of Public Health is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and support a modern, secure IT infrastructure in a hybrid telework environment based in Sacramento. You will lead network and system engineering efforts, implement cloud-ready solutions, and ensure resilience of critical services across Windows Server, Active Directory, and related platforms.

Qualifications

• Provide infrastructure support for critical apps and cloud platforms.
• Develop technical requirements and system documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead system and network engineering activities, including architecture design, system analysis, configuration, upgrades, backup/restore, job scheduling, and modernization of legacy systems.
• Provide infrastructure support for critical applications and cloud-based SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS platforms; manage firewalls, load balancing, and service-monitoring tools to ensure reliable operations.
• Develop technical requirements, specifications, network diagrams, and system documentation to support new development and modifications to existing systems.
• Conduct security analyses and risk assessments, recommend mitigation strategies, analyze incident data, and prepare implementation plans and technical documentation. Provide guidance on information security processes.
• Supports and administers Windows Server environments, including configuration, maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of server infrastructure.
• Administers and manages all core functions of Active Directory, including user and group management, policies, authentication, directory services, and security controls.
• Automates tasks and improves operational efficiency using scripting and programming languages, such as PowerShell, Python, R, or equivalent technologies commonly used for system administration and data processing.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues, perform impact assessments, restore service during incidents, conduct post-incident root-cause analysis, and provide timely updates to leadership, partners, and stakeholders.
• Evaluate new tools, technologies, platforms, and processes, recommend adoption strategies, and maintain expert knowledge of industry trends, cloud technologies, and infrastructure best practices.
• Re-engineer business processes, establish organizational goals and operating procedures, drive continuous improvements, and ensure operational effectiveness.
