Overview Of Position

FEDITC is seeking a Senior Network Architect within 50 miles of Springfield, VA to support enterprise architecture, design, development, and deployment of network services supporting the Department of Homeland Security’s Wide Area Network. The role involves working with technologies such as Cisco routing/switching, Cisco VPN, F5 GTM/LTM load-balancing, Palo Alto firewalls, Broadcom (BlueCoat) Proxies, and others. The candidate will support DHS component/customer solutions, enterprise design, network modernization, cloud integration, incident troubleshooting, and architecture input.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot network incidents, perform root cause analysis, and document in tickets and knowledge bases.
  • Work nights for network Change Requests (CRs) and participate in on-call rotations for escalated incidents from DHS Network Operations Security Center (NOSC).
  • Learn complex and dynamic networks resourcefully.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with DHS components and customers to develop WAN solutions aligning with DHS standards.
  • Create project artifacts such as requirements, design documents, and diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years (mid) / 6+ years (senior) hands-on experience with Cisco routing, switching, and firewalls (e.g., ISR, ASR, CSR, ASA, Nexus, TACACS/ISE).
  • 2+ years in WAN environment, with incident and operations management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), network protocols (TCP/IP, GRE, IPSEC, VRF), firewalls, load balancers, and proxies.
  • Experience with IT security related to networks and applications.
  • Ability to work during change windows and provide after-hours on-call support.
  • Experience in creating design documentation, diagrams, and project artifacts.
  • Knowledge of Cisco technologies, Palo Alto firewalls, F5 Load Balancers, BlueCoat/Symantec Proxies, SDN/SD-WAN, Cloud (AWS, Azure, O365), SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Unix/Linux, Python, Perl, NetScout.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Certifications

  • Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., Security+).
  • Highly desirable: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Preferred but not required: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).

Security Clearance

  • DHS BI (EOD).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, pass background checks, and maintain necessary security clearances.
