This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond, VA in-office applicants. *A Hybrid schedule of both Remote and In-Office days is required. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.

YOUR ROLE

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and support of Genworth’s enterprise network infrastructure. This role applies in-depth technical knowledge across campus, data center, cloud, WAN, Internet edge, and security platforms to solve complex network problems, support network modernization, and improve operational reliability and consistency. The Senior Network Engineer partners closely with Network Operations, Information Security, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Services, and application teams to deliver highly available, secure, and scalable connectivity solutions. This position works independently with minimal guidance, serves as a technical resource for less experienced engineers, may coordinate small technical workstreams, resolves complex incidents, and contributes to future-state network architecture and engineering standards.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Design, implement, support, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure across data center, campus, cloud, WAN, and remote-access environments.
  • Serve as a senior technical contributor for network initiatives, upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure modernization efforts; may coordinate defined technical workstreams.
  • Develop and maintain network design documentation, engineering standards, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents, outages, and performance issues, escalating or engaging additional resources when required.
  • Partner with Network Operations teams to improve reliability, monitoring, observability, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Design and implement resilient routing, switching, wireless, Internet, and cloud networking solutions using established architecture and engineering standards.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot dynamic routing protocols, including BGP and OSPF, across enterprise data center, campus, WAN, cloud, and hybrid network environments.
  • Support and optimize secure access technologies, including VPN, SASE/SSE, SD-WAN, and Zero Trust networking architectures.
  • Collaborate with Information Security teams to implement network security controls, segmentation strategies, firewall policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate network technologies and provide technical recommendations aligned with established business, architecture, and technology requirements.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and infrastructure scalability assessments; recommend improvements based on findings.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced network engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and engineering best practices.
  • Develop and support automation solutions using scripting and infrastructure-as-code methodologies to improve network operations.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, change management processes, technical governance activities, and implementation planning.
  • Work with vendors, managed service providers, and technology partners to support operational needs and assigned initiatives.
  • Support cloud networking architectures across Azure, AWS, and hybrid environment deployments.
  • Participate in on-call support and major incident response activities as required.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, network operations, network architecture, or infrastructure engineering roles.
  • Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with enterprise routing and switching technologies.
  • Strong experience with Cisco networking platforms including Catalyst, Nexus, and related management tools.
  • Experience supporting enterprise firewall and security solutions, preferably Palo Alto Networks.
  • Strong experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protocols, including BGP and OSPF, along with knowledge of EIGRP, MPLS, SD‑WAN, DNS, NTP, DHCP, IPAM, and network segmentation principles.
  • Experience designing and supporting cloud networking solutions within Azure and/or AWS environments.
  • Knowledge of SASE/SSE architectures, remote access technologies, and Zero Trust networking concepts.
  • Experience with network monitoring, telemetry, observability, and performance management platforms.
  • Experience with automation or scripting technologies such as Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex technical work, contribute to engineering decisions, and coordinate with multiple teams.
Nice to have
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, or equivalent.
  • Experience with cloud‑delivered security platforms, including Prisma Access or similar SSE/SASE solutions.
  • Experience with network automation frameworks, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with network access control (NAC), microsegmentation, and Zero Trust security architectures.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and analytics platforms such as SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, LogicMonitor, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and security frameworks including NIST CSF, CIS Controls, PCI‑DSS, and ISO 27001.
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed enterprise environments and multi‑site networks.
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers, coordinating technical workstreams, or supporting project delivery efforts.
