Senior Network Engineer

Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a cybersecurity/network engineer to patch vulnerabilities on Navy afloat networks and provide shipboard IT support. You will perform root-cause analysis, advise permanent fixes, and support servers, networks, desktops, and peripherals, including remote troubleshooting.

You will collaborate with Active Duty personnel and government staff, participate in technical meetings, and deliver briefs. Expect ~25% travel within the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of related experience or Master’s +3+ years; PhD with 0 years acceptable.
• 1+ years supporting military network environments relevant to responsibilities.
• Administration experience with Cisco switches/routers, Windows Server, or Linux.
• Working knowledge of core networking concepts and protocols.
• Active Secret Clearance required.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• DoD IAT Level II certification such as Security+.
• Ability to obtain OS certs (CCNA, MS Server Hybrid Admin, Linux+, VCP) within 6 months.
• Knowledge of ADNS, ISNS, CANES, FSW, CENTRIXS, Legacy SCI, VIXS, WRBS is a plus.
• Experience administering enterprise-scale networks is desired.
• Proficiency with enterprise wireless tech (802.11, RF, WPA3, 802.1X) is desired.
• Hands-on with next-gen firewalls, segmentation, zero-trust.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis; excellent communication.

Job description

• Provide break/fix IT support in shipboard environments and troubleshoot LAN issues
• Perform root cause analysis and recommend permanent configuration or system changes
• Deliver server and network break/fix support, including remote troubleshooting of servers, networks, desktops, and peripheral devices
• Participate in technical meetings, prepare progress updates, and deliver briefs and presentations
• Work directly with Active Duty personnel and government staff to deliver repair and technical support for Navy afloat networks
• Travel within the U.S. and internationally, approximately 25%, and provide occasional after-hours support

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree and 3+ years, or PhD and 0 years of related experience
• Years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• 1+ years of experience supporting military network environments relevant to the responsibilities
• Administration experience with Cisco switches/routers, Windows Server, or Linux
• Working knowledge of core networking concepts and protocols
• Active Secret Clearance
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Current DoD IAT Level II certification, such as CompTIA Security+
• Ability to obtain an approved operating system certification within 6 months of hire, such as CCNA, Microsoft Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Linux+, VCP, or equivalent cloud certifications
• Knowledge of ADNS, ISNS, CANES, FSW, CENTRIXS, Legacy SCI, VIXS, and WRBS is a plus
• Experience administering enterprise-scale networks is desired
• Proficiency with enterprise wireless technologies, including 802.11 standards, controller-based systems, RF design, tuning, WPA3, and 802.1X, is desired
• Hands-on experience with next-generation firewalls, segmentation approaches, and zero-trust architectures is desired
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills are desired
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are desired
