Job summary

CUNY Central Office in New York is seeking a Specialist Level III – Senior Network Engineer for a 1-year onsite engagement beginning around October 21, 2026. You will oversee day-to-day operations across ONS, Catalyst, Nexus, ASR, Aironet and Meraki, with travel to campuses as needed.

The role requires 7+ years of hands-on experience, deep Cisco routing and network automation skills, and a proven track record mentoring junior engineers. This position is on-site in NYC with regular travel.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on Senior Network Engineer experience.
• Experience with Cisco ONS, Cisco TAC, fiber cabling and related hardware.
• Expertise in BGP, OSPF/EIGRP, TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, firewalls, load balancers and IPAM.
• Proficiency in Cisco Meraki Wi‑Fi (Aironet).
• Network automation using Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Git; Network-as-Code exposure is a plus.
• Senior escalation point and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day operations across ONS, Catalyst, Nexus, ASR, Aironet and Meraki; LAN/WAN and cloud connections.
• Writing MOPs, submitting and implementing changes in ServiceNow.
• Incident response, ticket management, Cisco TAC and carrier coordination.
• Field replacement of failed ONS modules at CUNY sites.
• Training and knowledge transfer to CUNY network engineering/NOC staff.

Job description

Position: Specialist Level III – Senior Network Engineer

Client: CUNY Central Office, 395 Hudson Street, New York, NY (onsite)

Start: Around October 21, 2026

Duration: 1 year

Hours: 9am–5pm EST, plus after hours/weekends as needed

Travel: Regular travel to CUNY campuses across the five NYC boroughs and Long Island

Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the US

Mandatory Qualifications:

• 7+ years hands-on Senior Network Engineer experience
• Cisco Optical Network Solutions (ONS): troubleshooting with Cisco TAC, onsite hardware swaps/installs, fiber cabling (troubleshoot, clean, replace)
• Cisco Catalyst and Nexus route/switch, Cisco ASR routing
• BGP (iBGP/eBGP), OSPF/EIGRP, TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, firewalls, load balancers, IPAM
• Intermediate Cisco and Meraki Wi‑Fi (incl. Aironet)
• Packet capture and traffic flow analysis; structured root cause analysis
• Network automation using Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Git or similar (config backup, compliance, drift detection, provisioning); Network-as‑Code exposure a plus
• Senior escalation point; mentoring junior engineers
