Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a Senior Network Compliance Officer to lead a team ensuring utility roadworks comply with legal standards and council schemes. The role involves oversight of compliance, enforcement and resolving public concerns, with a focus on safe, high-quality service delivery.

The position requires outdoor site work across the county, regular travel, and strong stakeholder engagement to minimise network disruption while maintaining service levels.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of utility operations and/or streetworks on the public highway, including relevant legislation
• Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing, motivating and developing teams
• Proactive approach to delivery, with a strong focus on safety, financial awareness, and achieving outcomes
• Proven problem-solving ability, with confidence making decisions in complex or challenging situations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of customers and stakeholders
• Full driving licence

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Network Management Compliance Officers to ensure works on the public highway are carried out safely and in compliance with relevant acts
• Oversee compliance and enforcement activity and respond to customer issues relating to temporary highway obstructions
• Act as a key customer interface to drive efficient, high-quality service delivery while minimising disruption to the network
