Job summary

TrulyHired in Walterboro, SC is seeking qualified NJROTC instructors to oversee the Navy Junior ROTC program in local high schools and help sustain high standards of discipline, instruction, and community engagement.

SNSIs teach naval science, mentor cadets, coordinate with school staff, prepare lesson plans, manage equipment and budget, coordinate extracurricular activities, and promote career opportunities in the Navy and academia.

Qualifications

• Active duty service as commissioned officers in grades W-2 through O-6 or as E-6 through E-9 with 20+ years of service.
• Retired or Fleet Reserve status not more than 6 years, or TER A with 15–19 years of active duty.
• Retired Naval Reserve members not yet receiving retirement benefits (gray area).
• Approved retirement benefits within past 6 years for medical disability.
• Educational degree requirements: SNSI - Bachelor's degree; NSI - Associate's degree or must obtain within 5 years per NDAA.

Responsibilities

• Teach the prescribed Naval Science curriculum for 3- or 4-year programs.
• Instruct in military drill.
• Counsel students in the NJROTC program.
• Write/update NJROTC lesson plans and prep requirements.
• Mentor cadets and assist with education or employment opportunities.
• Requisition government furnished equipment and manage related logistics.
• Arrange for uniform maintenance and tailoring.
• Survey uniforms and government property and maintain inventory control.
• Ensure security of government furnished equipment/materials.
• Plan extracurricular NJROTC activities (color/honor guard, drill teams, field trips, leadership training, ship cruises).
• Prepare periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
• Keep current with Navy developments and assess unit progress.
• Attend Navy-sponsored training to stay current on program requirements.
• Develop teaching abilities and establish rapport with counselors and faculty.
• Make annual presentations to feeder schools to recruit cadets.
• Maintain operating budget and prepare financial vouchers for reimbursement.
• Establish contact with civic groups for recognition and support.
