Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Senior Engineering Technician to join the NSWC Crane Division, supporting submarine systems with non-standard engineering tasks and selecting or adapting procedures under supervision. The role requires a strong technical background and ability to work independently on recurring work.

The position emphasizes data extraction, testing, design modification support, and collaboration across teams; security clearance at secret level is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electronics with 5–7 years of relevant experience.
• Qualified in submarines (SS) with service aboard U.S. Navy VIRGINIA-class submarines (SSN-774 through SSN-800).
• Experience operating, maintaining, or supporting VIRGINIA-class submarine systems required.
• EMN preferred; ETN or MMN considered with submarine electrical systems familiarity.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Effective communication with all organizational levels and external contacts; strong interpersonal judgment.

Responsibilities

• Construct components, sub-units, or simple models or adapt standard equipment; troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Follow diagrams to construct and package devices and sub-units of equipment.
• Conduct tests with minor setup modifications and record data.
• Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, and reports; identify errors and present data.
• Assist design modification by compiling data on specs and materials.
• Develop information on previous failures and seek data to clarify gaps.
• Other duties as assigned.
