About the Role

Our established Financial Services client is seeking a high-caliber Senior Narrative & Editorial Strategist to partner with Corporate Affairs leadership in shaping how we articulate our mission, value, and expertise. Reporting closely to the SVP, Content & Strategy and VP, Content & Media Strategy, you will serve as a core intellectual architect—developing strong points of view (POVs), strategic story territories, and overarching narrative frameworks that span paid, owned, earned, and social channels.

This role requires a rare mix of high-level narrative framing, crisp executive-ready messaging, and hands‑on editorial guidance. You will help drive weekly editorial agenda, identify market trends where we can lead the conversation, and safeguard brand reputation across key audience segments including policymakers, opinion leaders, B2B partners, consumers, and employees.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Narrative & POV Development
  • Craft Story Frameworks: Architect strategic narratives, POVs, and story territories aligned with Corporate Affairs priorities, key industry moments, and signature events.
  • Capitalize on Emerging Trends: Proactively identify news cycles, industry trends, and topics where we can establish credible, high-impact thought leadership.
  • Multi‑Audience Tailoring: Ensure storytelling frameworks effectively resonate with diverse stakeholder groups, from external policymakers and B2B clients to internal employee audiences.
Editorial Leadership & Governance
  • Set the Agenda: Partner with the VP, Content & Media Strategy to drive the week‑to‑week editorial calendar and maintain a steady pipeline of compelling content.
  • Elevate Content Quality: Provide hands‑on editorial direction and constructive feedback to maintain high editorial standards, tone, and strategic coherence across all channels.
  • Build Reusable Tools: Develop editorial guidelines, narrative toolkits, and standardized messaging frameworks to empower cross‑functional teams to produce consistent, high‑quality content.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Continuous Improvement
  • Executive Partnership: Collaborate directly with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to turn complex strategic ideas into clear, actionable editorial programs.
  • Reputation Guardrails: Apply sharp editorial judgment when dealing with complex, sensitive, or high‑stakes corporate topics.
  • Refine & Optimize: Measure editorial effectiveness, capture cross‑channel learnings, and continuously iterate Synchrony’s corporate storytelling playbook.
Required Experience
  • 10+ Years of Experience: Proven background in corporate storytelling, editorial strategy, journalism, brand narrative, or executive communications.
  • 5+ Years of Digital Content Strategy: Demonstrated success leveraging digital channels, social platforms, and content ecosystems to reach targeted B2B, consumer, policymaker, and internal audiences.
Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Storyteller & Editor: Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging capabilities with a track record of translating complex corporate initiatives into clear, persuasive narratives.
  • Executive Presence & Advisory Skills: Comfort working alongside SVPs, VPs, and cross‑functional leadership to define strategic direction and influence narrative output.
  • Reputation & Issue Judgment: Sophisticated understanding of corporate risk, reputational nuance, and public affairs messaging.
  • Self‑Directed Execution: High autonomy with the ability to manage competing priorities, tight media/editorial deadlines, and multiple senior stakeholders in a fast‑paced environment.
