Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a motivated Materials Science staff member to lead nanoscale fabrication research at the Materials Physics department. The role will involve coordinating a cleanroom program, collaborating on device fabrication, testing, and characterization, and expanding access to external facilities.

Onsite work is required, with opportunities to develop new nanofabrication directions. The candidate should hold a PhD in a related field with extensive cleanroom experience and

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Cleanroom fabrication experience, tools, techniques and materials.
• Experience with electronic and photonic device fabrication, testing, and characterization.
• Strong publication record in high impact journals.
• Broad research experience across disciplines.
• Experience writing research proposals.
• Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate maintenance on cleanroom instruments.
• Manage and maintain safety in fabrication laboratories.
• Educate and oversee the local nanofabrication community.
• Interact with external fabrication facilities to expand access to the user community.
• Develop new programmatic directions for utilization of the nanofabrication facilities.
• Travel to local cleanrooms to perform fabrication operations not available at SNL.
• Perform materials and device fabrication research in collaboration with other researchers.
• Collaborate with other researchers on the development of research proposals.
• Publish and present work at relevant conferences and in scientific journals.
