Job summary

The City of Bloomington, IL is seeking senior-level municipal attorneys to join its Legal Department as experienced counsel and advisors to the City, departments, elected and appointed officials, boards, and commissions. Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Illinois bar.
• Substantial legal experience.
• Strong research, writing, advocacy, and communication skills.
• Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex legal issues.
• Sound professional judgment and discretion; manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to the City Manager, department heads, elected officials, boards, and staff.
• Research and interpret federal, state, and local law.
• Draft and review ordinances, contracts, agreements, leases, deeds, policies, and other legal documents.
• Represent the City in hearings, negotiations, mediations, and administrative proceedings.
• Advise on legal risks, compliance, and regulatory matters; translate complex issues into practical guidance.
