Job summary

The City of Bloomington Illinois seeks experienced attorneys to join its Legal Department in senior-level roles providing legal counsel, representation, and strategic advice to the City, its departments, elected and appointed officials, boards, and commissions.

Qualifications

J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to Illinois bar.
Substantial legal experience.
Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills.
Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex legal issues.
Sound professional judgment and ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

Advise the City Manager, department heads, elected officials, boards, commissions, and staff.
Research and interpret federal, state, and local law.
Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents.
Represent the City in hearings, negotiations, and court matters.
Provide clear, practical, legally sound advice to decision-makers.
