Job summary

Redwood Materials seeks a Sr. System Modeling Engineer for energy storage to lead multiphysics modeling and accelerate system design decisions. You will develop robust models, enable cross‑functional collaboration, and adapt to a fast-paced startup atmosphere.

You will help build an in-house performance and technoeconomic modeling platform, parallelizing workflows in the cloud and guiding design choices across architecture and deployment contexts.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Mechanical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience collaborating in software projects with multiple contributors.
• Hybrid or electric powertrain model development, PV model development, or data analysis in Python or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Familiarity with basic control techniques, such as filters, PID controllers, and system identification.
• Experience with optimization techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to write clear and testable engineering requirements.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Redwood Materials’ in-house performance and technoeconomic model.
• Drive architectural studies to explore the cost and performance design space.
• Produce component-level sensitivity analysis to allow owners to make cost and performance tradeoffs.
• Utilize the models to produce repeatable results for stakeholders to drive product architecture and deployment decisions.
• Parallelize modeling framework to utilize cloud computing resources.
• Lead model validation efforts by writing test plans and coordinating tests with engineers.
• Communicate modeling results to drive architecture and performance initiatives.
