Job summary

Pierce County is seeking a planning professional to help shape long-range transportation and land-use strategies. This role emphasizes coordination with County departments, partner agencies, and communities to implement policies and investments aligning with the County’s vision.

The successful candidate will navigate Washington state planning frameworks and regulatory processes, turn priorities into actionable plans, and lead complex projects with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of long-range planning principles, practices, and regulatory frameworks.
• Analytical and communication skills for coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to independently manage complex planning projects and produce actionable recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert for assigned planning projects and programs.
• Develop, and prepare planning documents including drafting code amendments, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Interpret local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines as they relate to assigned responsibilities and stay abreast of legislative changes.
• Perform research, prepare special studies, write reports, collect and analyze data for planning functions.
• Lead preparation and presentation of reports to County Officials, departments, external entities, and the general public.
