Job summary

Google is seeking a Motion Designer to shape our AI-era design language and choreograph experiences that feel fluid, natural, and informative.

You will work with cross-functional teams across design, product, and engineering to craft motion that enhances UX and delights users, applying animation to simplify complex interactions and reinforce the Google brand.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, CS, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of product design or UX experience.
  • Portfolio, website, or links must be included in resume with accessible view.

Responsibilities

  • Create initial motion concepts and high‑fidelity mocks exploring new approaches for Google's AI-era design language.
  • Collaborate with designers, PMs, and engineers to refine motion concepts and specs in real time.
  • Create detailed documentation and logic for developers to implement motion designs accurately.
  • Provide context for animations to ensure viability and seamless integration.
  • Translate complex ideas into tangible visuals that test UI conventions.

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience related to physics, patterns, motion design and visual design elements.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).
Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience with using animation tools (e.g., after effects or similar), and understanding of basic principles of animation.
  • Experience using motion to reduce perceived latency.
  • Ability to fuse creativity and code to deliver interactions, using motion to a narrative effect and understanding the future of interactive motion.
  • Ability to utilize AI workflows to scale creative output, from conceptual storyboarding to advanced motion flows.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

  • Germany: €112000 - €114000 (EUR) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
  • US: $159000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Create initial motion concepts and high-fidelity mocks, radically exploring new approaches for Google’s AI‑era design language.
  • Partner with designers, product managers, and engineers to evolve bold ideas. Quickly and precisely respond to feedback, leveraging high‑order teamwork skills to refine motion concepts and specs in real‑time and ensure the collective goal remains cohesive.
  • Create detailed documentation and logic for developers to accurately implement motion designs.
  • Provide the necessary context for unique animations, ensuring that even the most expressive concepts are technically viable and seamlessly integrated.
  • Navigate ambiguity by translating complex ideas into tangible visuals that test UI conventions.
