Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Elkton, Maryland is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Project Engineer to join the Propulsion Systems and Controls team. You will lead project engineering for motion controls hardware, coordinating with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers to ensure on‑budget, on‑time delivery for defense and space applications.

Candidates should have a engineering degree with extensive experience and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree with 3+ years; OR PhD with 1+ year.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
• Ability and willingness to travel as required

Responsibilities

• Develop project scope, objectives, and deliverables for motion controls hardware with the integrated project team.
• Plan and manage project schedules, resources, and budgets to ensure on-target execution.
• Monitor progress against the plan; track milestones, timelines, costs, and technical risks.
• Manage changes to scope, schedule, and budget through a formal change-control process.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; maintain a risk register and contingency plans.
• Communicate status, risks, and key decisions to stakeholders via reports and reviews.
• Ensure quality standards with design reviews, peer reviews, and test/verification activities.
• Coordinate documentation and release of design results with proper approvals.
• Make recommendations for process improvements to enhance schedule and quality.
• Support test planning and execution for design, fabrication, integration, and verification.
• Assist generation of presentation materials for internal and customer reviews.
• Collaborate with procurement, suppliers, and materials management to ensure delivery of hardware.
