Job Summary

Senior Model Maker – Upholster / Pattern Maker – Holland, MI

Turn design ideas into real, usable patterns for upholstery using materials such as woven or base fabric, leather, and faux leather. Manage patterns from early prototypes through to production, supporting plant teams as they develop them further. One program may include up to 30 different patterns. Utilize CAD software to create and modify detailed 2D and 3D part and assembly drawings from engineer and technician sketches, plans, and instructions. Assist with other hands‑on projects, including some wood work.

Job Responsibilities

• Apply machine operating skills and knowledge of materials and processes to fabricate appearance models, functional prototypes of new concepts, and prototype dies or fixtures.
• Analyze engineering drawings and sketches to determine manufacturing processes, tooling, and CNC programming requirements.
• Plan and develop patterns while also managing early prototypes through to production.
• Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software for new and revised parts, including tool path generation and tool selection.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to establish a prototype based on their vision for production and material patterns.
• Develop and maintain tooling standards and documentation for CNC machining processes.
• Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.
• Use office automation, communication, software, and tools used in the Haworth office environment.
• Perform other duties within scope as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of upholstery / pattern making experience or model shop experience.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality of projects in the Model Shop.
• Ability to frequently lift material and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds (assistance provided for heavier objects).
• Must be able to commute daily to the Holland Headquarters.
• Applicants must be able to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance.
• Applicants must possess an unrestricted right to work in the U.S. to be eligible for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified journeyman Model Maker, Tool and Die Maker, Sheet Metal Worker, Patternmaker, or equivalent.
• Certification or vocational training.
• Experience upholstering furniture and seating.
• Ability to develop and modify patterns.
• Has sewing skills.
• Exhibits strong time‑management skills to meet deadlines.
• Experience with software tools like SolidWorks and ExactFlat.
• Ability to read blueprints to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
• Willing to learn and expand skills outside of upholstery with work in wood/metal/CNC.
