Job summary

Apple seeks a Senior ML Research Engineer in Cupertino to advance safety for foundation models used in its products. You will lead research and application of methods to ensure safe, private, and high-quality AI capabilities at scale, focusing on agentic safety, model character, and cross-modal safety involving audio and vision.

The role requires a strong ML background, hands-on model training, and collaboration with ML researchers, engineers, and product teams to deliver safe safety-aligned

Qualifications

• Strong ML background with hands-on model training and demonstrated impact via publications
• Strong coding skills and ability to work with messy real-world codebases
• Direct experience with LLMs and post-training safety alignment is a plus

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver safety methods for foundation models, with emphasis on agentic safety, model character and persona, and multimodal safety (audio and vision)
• Research the safety and security risks of agentic systems, including tool use, and build data/evaluations to address them
• Help define and safeguard the model's character and persona for consistent, safe behavior
• Train and evaluate foundation models with safety in mind across audio and vision modalities
• Research and improve safety alignment and robustness for large language models
• Collaborate with engineers/researchers across teams to improve Apple products
• Partner with product teams to define requirements and drive quality and delivery
