Job summary

Upstart, a leading AI lending marketplace, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the ML and Simulations Platform (MLSP) to build an MLOps platform enabling model inference, automation, deployment and observability.

You’ll help create a marketplace simulation platform to support rapid ML and finance experimentation while delivering scalable production features across a remote-first US workforce.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building backend services and APIs.
• Experience with distributed systems or large-scale data processing (Spark, Databricks, Ray).
• Experience with ML platform or ML production path.
• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, Databricks, and AWS.
• Growth mindset; quickly learn new technologies.
• Ability to translate complex requirements for technical/non-technical partners.
• Preferred: Metaflow, MLflow, gRPC, Spark/PySpark, dbt, Ray, GPU.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the ML and simulation platform for scale, performance, and decisioning confidence.
• Develop software to apply ML models to evolving business needs.
• Create self-service tooling for feature registration and model deployment.
• Deliver data and feature infrastructure, including offline to online parity.
• Design simulation systems reflecting production environments and cost optimize.
• Collaborate with ML, Engineering, Product, and Data teams; communicate progress.
• Mentor engineers on distributed systems, MLOps, and scalable architecture.
