Job summary

Upstart, a digital-first AI lending platform, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the ML and Simulations Platform. You will build an MLOps platform to support model inference, automation, deployment, and observability, and help create a marketplace simulation platform enabling rapid ML and finance experimentation.

You will mentor engineers, partner with ML, Engineering, Product, and Data teams, and work in a flexible, remote-friendly environment across the U.S., with in-person onsites as needed.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building backend services and APIs.
• Experience with distributed systems or large-scale data processing (Spark, Databricks, Ray).
• Experience with an ML platform or ML production path (training pipelines, model serving, feature pipelines).
• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, Databricks, and AWS.
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn.
• Ability to translate complex requirements for technical and non-technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimize ML and simulation platform for scale and performance.
• Develop software applications enabling ML models.
• Build self-service tooling for feature registration and model deployment.
• Provide data and feature infrastructure behind each model.
• Design simulation systems reflecting production environments.
• Collaborate with ML, Engineering, Product, Data Engineering.
• Mentor engineers on distributed systems, MLOps, and scalable architecture.
