Job summary

Atlassian is seeking a Senior ML System Engineer to build and refine core AI infrastructure used by Atlassian software engineers, ML engineers, and data scientists. You will design, deploy, and operate ML pipelines, collaborate across Jira and Confluence to deliver scalable ML solutions, and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building Machine Learning and AI infra/platform/system.
• Comprehensive ML lifecycle expertise: develop, deploy, and maintain end-to-end ML systems.
• Large-scale system design: scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems for ML.
• MLOps and automation: CI/CD pipelines and automation for continuous training and deployment.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX); familiarity with Go/Java/Scala beneficial.
• Cloud infrastructure on AWS/GCP/Azure with AI/ML services and GPUs.
• Big data processing with frameworks like Spark, Ray, or Dask.
• Experience with GenAI systems, LLMs, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Jira and Confluence teams to solve ML challenges.
• Curate high-quality ML datasets and fine-tune open-source LLMs or access proprietary LLMs.
• Lead projects from technical design to launch across Atlassian platforms.
• Deliver code reviews, documentation, and bug fixes within a strong engineering culture.
• Partner across engineering teams to drive company-wide ML initiatives.
• Mentor junior team members on ML infrastructure best practices.
