Affirm is seeking a backend engineer to design, develop, and operate scalable systems powering ML and data platforms. You’ll own quarterly goals, mentor engineers, collaborate with product and design, and help keep services reliable and fast.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature with an elegant and extensible design.
• Capable of making large codebase changes safely with tooling and practices.
• Demonstrates ownership of growth by seeking feedback from team, manager and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication to collaborate with a global engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics in ideation and decision making.
• Identify and drive resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts with metrics and on-call duties.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across teams.
• Mentor and develop talent on your team.
