Cinder is seeking an AI Engineer to partner with its ML team in NYC, building production ML systems and real-time policies. You’ll turn large volumes of decision data into production models, choosing gradient-boosted trees or fine-tuned LLMs as the situation requires, and you’ll craft in-house training, hosting, and inference pipelines.

You’ll own data-to-decision paths, optimize latency and cost, and mentor teammates as the ML capability matures in a fast-moving startup setting.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years of ML engineering experience on a small team shipping ML systems to production.
• Took a classification problem from messy, unlabeled data to a model that shipped and served production traffic.
• Understand LLMs well enough to decide when an LLM is worth its cost and latency vs a classic model.
• Experience building classifiers under severe class imbalance with a small signal.
• Built training pipelines, serving infra, evaluation harness, and monitoring from scratch.

Responsabilités

• Turn real-world customer data into learnable features and decide model approach (classical vs LLM) and manage end-to-end path from data to decision.
• Improve your classification pipeline, confidence cascading, and detection strategies balancing cost, latency, and accuracy.
• Develop features to help moderators, organize content, and reveal patterns across data.
• Collaborate with Engineering to build in-house model training, hosting, and inference platform.
• Design evaluation and metrics infrastructure for classifier scores and model outputs.
