Job summary

Heven AeroTech in Washington state is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Autonomy, to own the development of ML and autonomy for uncrewed aircraft systems. You will translate mission needs into software requirements, architectures, and verification strategies while collaborating with platform and flight-test teams.

The role is hands-on and senior, with mentorship responsibilities and a focus on perception, sensor fusion, planning, and integration with flight-control systems.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of autonomy/robotics/embedded software experience with ML or autonomy on physical platforms.
• Ability to lead a technical effort from requirements to testing.
• Strong C++ and Python development on Linux, with ML frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Own autonomy capabilities from requirements, architecture, implementation, integration, verification and delivery.
• Translate mission needs into autonomous behaviors, constraints, performance requirements and test criteria.
• Make technical tradeoffs across ML, deterministic logic, state machines, and planners based on mission needs.
• Design and implement mission-level autonomous behaviors including replanning and operator coordination.
• Lead perception capabilities development: detection, tracking, sensor fusion, scene understanding, and geospatial reasoning.
• Define interfaces between autonomy software and autopilots, sensors, payloads, data links, and GCS/C2 systems.
