Job summary

Element Biosciences seeks a Senior Engineer, Machine Learning to design and deploy deep learning models for biological image analysis. You will work on multimodal data, including single-cell and omics, and apply advanced image processing techniques.

The role is onsite at our San Diego headquarters with cross-functional collaboration across biology and software teams. The ideal candidate has strong Python and deep learning library experience (PyTorch, OpenCV, Scikit-learn) and hands-on cloud

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD with relevant experience as described in the job posting.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying deep learning models for image analysis in production environments—cloud-hosted or on-instrument—required.
• Proficiency with CNNs, Vision Transformers, U-Net, and attention-based models; familiarity with self-supervised or contrastive learning is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize deep learning models for biological image analysis and classification.
• Deploy production-grade models on cloud infrastructure or instruments, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Develop end-to-end ML pipelines from data ingestion to inference.
• Collaborate with biology, software, and instrumentation to co-design experiments.
• Analyze large-scale imaging datasets to identify patterns and improve models.
• Communicate findings and trade-offs to stakeholders.
