Job summary

TheIncLab is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to research, design, train, and evaluate ML models addressing real-world challenges for defense and aerospace applications.

You will own data pipelines, feature engineering, model validation, and optimization, using PyTorch or TensorFlow, with a focus on scalable production systems and collaboration across teams. A U.S. citizen with clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional experience with hands-on machine learning development.
• Strong understanding of ML theory and fundamentals.
• Model selection and evaluation.
• Bias/variance tradeoffs.
• Experience training/evaluating models with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience building end-to-end ML pipelines.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with real-world, imperfect datasets.
• Ability to explain model behavior to stakeholders.
• Strong software engineering and system design practices.

Responsibilities

• Research, evaluate, and select ML approaches based on problem definitions.
• Work across supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
• Build and deploy models using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Design and maintain ML pipelines and data processing.
• Validate data quality and perform feature engineering.
• Tune and debug models addressing overfitting and bias.
• Evaluate with appropriate metrics and iterate improvements.
• Integrate ML models into production systems.
• Mentor junior engineers on ML best practices.
• Document experiments and design decisions using Git, Jira, and Confluence.
• Travel up to 20%.
