Job summary

Cisco is seeking a Senior Staff Applied Scientist to lead research and deployment of next-generation AI systems for intelligent code generation. You will design and implement models that can reason, plan, self-correct, and integrate with tools and runtimes across complex workflows.

You will mentor a high-performing research team and shape long-term AI strategy while collaborating with engineering and product to bring breakthroughs to customers.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, ML, AI, or related field with 5+ years post-doctoral/industry experience; or Master’s with 10+ years in industry.
• 3+ years developing Large Language Models for program synthesis or DSLs.
• 2+ years in multi-step planning or agentic AI for developer workflows.
• 3+ years Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• 3+ years translating research prototypes to production systems with deployment, optimization, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of research and deployment of next-generation AI systems for intelligent code generation.
• Define the scientific roadmap for agentic GenAI and enable models that can reason, plan, self-correct, and integrate with tools.
• Advance DSL-aware code synthesis for evolving developer experiences across workflows.
• Drive distributed training and inference efficiency while balancing performance, latency, and cost.
• Collaborate with engineering and product to translate AI breakthroughs into customer capabilities.
• Mentor a high-performing research organization and foster scientific rigor and delivery excellence.
• Shape long-term AI strategy and influence architectural decisions and investments.
