Job summary

Mimecast is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to set technical direction for ML capabilities, owning the hardest modeling and systems problems end to end. You will shape architecture, production serving, and cross-team collaboration for threat-detection products.

You will work in an AI-first engineering environment, leveraging tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and MCP integrations, and you will be a technical authority for product and engineering leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience building production ML systems at scale (2M+ examples) and handling imbalanced data.
• Deep Python proficiency with PyTorch and NLP tooling; familiarity with ONNX Runtime is a plus.
• Ability to design end-to-end ML architectures, from data to deployment and monitoring.
• Strong leadership in an individual contributor role and ability to mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own ML systems end to end: data sourcing, labeling strategy, feature engineering, models, deployment, monitoring.
• Set ML architecture across design, serving, and systems to optimize accuracy, latency, throughput.
• Lead production model serving decisions using SageMaker, Triton, and KServe with hardened containers.
• Benchmark alternatives and provide defensible technical recommendations to leadership.
• Establish reproducible ML standards, versioned datasets, and shared experimentation workflows.
• Ensure model observability and metrics, including threshold management and real-time monitoring.
