Northeastern University’s Kostas Research Institute (KRI) seeks a talented R&D Engineer with ML/AI expertise to contribute to a broad portfolio of projects across autonomous systems, sensing, and decision-support systems. The role emphasizes turning research into practical, deployable ML/AI software within a multi‑disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will leverage Python, PyTorch, HPC environments, and cloud/container workflows, while supporting government and industry contract

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering with a strong focus on machine learning and AI systems development (research, applied R&D, or production environments).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical contributions as a software engineer for ML/AI projects including autonomy, sensing and communication, and decision support systems.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to create solutions and prototypes for projects in autonomous systems, robotics, cognitive and distributed sensing, and ML systems.
• Prototype novel solutions and transition them toward robust, deployable systems.
