Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a veteran technologist to lead the technical direction of its Missile Defense portfolio in Huntsville, AL. The role requires defining architecture across C2, fire control, and battle management systems, while developing and validating advanced algorithms for real-time missions.

You will mentor engineers, establish modeling standards, and drive end-to-end system delivery from concept to fielding, interfacing with DoD customers and prime contractors.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance (required).
• 15+ years of experience in missile defense systems, Command & Control (C2), fire control, or battle management systems.
• Demonstrated experience in system architecture and algorithm development.
• Experience with modeling and simulation environments.
• Experience with end-to-end system delivery (concept through fielding).
• Software development experience.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
• Experience interfacing directly with DoD customers and/or prime contractors.
• Preferred: Technical Fellow, Chief Engineer, or equivalent senior technical leader experience.
• Preferred experience with sensor fusion, tracking, and targeting algorithms.
• Preferred experience with AI/ML applications in defense systems.
• Preferred experience with planners, battle management, sensor resource management, and fire control.
• Preferred existing relationships within the Huntsville defense community.
• PhD in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of the Command & Control (C2), fire control, and battle management portfolio.
• Define system architecture across C2, fire control systems, and battle management and sensor resource management.
• Develop, review, guide, and approve algorithms.
• Establish technical direction for modeling, simulation, and real-time system integration.
• Address critical technical challenges and high-risk problem areas.
• Ensure technical quality, performance, and scalability across programs.
• Mentor and develop 2-4 high-potential engineers into senior algorithm and system leads.
• Establish algorithm development standards, modeling and simulation approaches, and design and code review rigor.
• Build a repeatable, scalable algorithm development pipeline.
• Promote best practices across Agile development, testing, and integration.
• Serve as the company’s senior technical representative in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and program milestone discussions.
• Engage directly with Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and prime contractor customers.
• Translate customer needs into executable technical strategies.
• Serve as a trusted technical authority during complex or high-risk situations.
• Report to the President/CEO.
