Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Surveyor for our client near East London, Eastern Cape. The role focuses on establishing survey control, producing precise mine plans, and ensuring regulatory compliance across underground and surface operations.

You will operate advanced surveying instruments, configure control networks, and collaborate with planning engineers to provide timely, accurate data for development and production.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years as a Mine Surveyor, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
• Proficiency with modern surveying equipment and software.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Surpac, Vulcan and Deswik.
• Solid understanding of geological and mining principles as related to surveying.
• Knowledge of South African mining legislation pertaining to mine surveying.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain underground and surface survey control networks.
• Conduct routine surveys for development, production and reconciliation.
• Prepare and update mine plans, sections and graphical representations.
• Operate total stations, GPS and laser scanners.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mine Surveyor to join their operations near East London, Eastern Cape . This role is crucial for ensuring accurate spatial data and measurements required for mine planning, development, and production. The Senior Mine Surveyor will be responsible for establishing and maintaining survey control, producing accurate mine plans, and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory survey requirements. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, proficiency with surveying equipment and software, and a thorough understanding of underground and/or open-pit mining operations. You will be an integral part of the mining team, providing essential data for operational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish, maintain, and densify survey control networks both underground and on the surface.
• Conduct routine surveys for development, production, and reconciliation purposes.
• Prepare and update accurate mine plans, sections, and other graphical representations of the mine workings.
• Operate and maintain advanced surveying instruments, including total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
• Process and analyze survey data using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Deswik, Vulcan).
• Ensure all survey activities comply with the Mine Health and Safety Act and other relevant regulations.
• Collaborate with mine planning engineers, geologists, and operations personnel to provide timely and accurate survey information.
• Perform volumetric calculations for ore, waste, and stockpiles.
• Provide training and guidance to junior surveyors and survey assistants.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience as a Mine Surveyor, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining modern surveying equipment and technologies.
• Strong skills in mine surveying software packages (e.g., AutoCAD, Surpac, Vulcan, Deswik).
• Solid understanding of geological and mining principles and their impact on surveying requirements.
• Knowledge of South African mining legislation pertaining to mine surveying.
• Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Professional registration with PLATO as a Professional Land Surveyor or Technologist is highly advantageous.
