Job summary

Lonza Pharma & Biotech in Bend, Oregon, is seeking an Experienced Microbiologist to contribute to the development and manufacture of life-changing therapies within a highly regulated laboratory environment.

This is a fully site-based role emphasizing close collaboration, regulatory compliance, and technical precision in supporting materials testing, environmental monitoring, and continuous improvement across the microbiology function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related science.
• Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated lab environments.
• Knowledge of microbiological testing (bioburden, sterility, endotoxin).
• Experience with environmental monitoring in cleanrooms.
• Understanding of cGMP and quality requirements.
• Experience supporting validation, qualification, or contamination control.
• Willingness to work a 4x10-hour shift including one weekend day.

Responsibilities

• Design, validate, and transfer microbiological testing methods per regulatory standards.
• Support testing and release activities for raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
• Lead environmental monitoring activities and analyze data to reduce contamination risks.
• Maintain, qualify, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment for reliable results.
• Author, review, and approve technical documents including protocols and reports.
• Support audit readiness and represent the microbiology function during inspections.
• Mentor team members and drive continuous improvement in the lab.
