Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior MGSE Engineer to design, analyze, and validate Mechanical Ground Support Equipment for spacecraft systems on a 100% onsite basis in Western Texas.

Responsibilities include leading mechanical design and documentation of MGSE, supporting fabrication, AIT, and integration teams, and ensuring designs meet requirements. 3–10+ years of space hardware experience preferred; CAD tools such as Inventor/SolidWorks/CATIA expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 3–10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in spacecraft or related space hardware.
• Strong background in structural design, loads, and stress analysis.
• Experience designing MGSE or heavy mechanical tooling (jigs, fixtures, stands, lifts).
• Direct experience supporting AIT operations: assembly, integration, testing.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (Inventor preferred; SolidWorks/CATIA acceptable).
• Understanding of PDM/PLM environments and drawing release workflows.
• Knowledge of GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design, modeling, and documentation of MGSE, including jacks, rigs, lifts, test stands, and benches.
• Develop preliminary and detailed designs, including layouts, materials, tooling, and interfaces.
• Produce and maintain manufacturing drawings, ICDs, and tooling documentation.
• Support fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing on the engineering floor.
• Ensure MGSE designs meet requirements through structural assessments and trade studies.
• Provide structural input, including loads, materials, and FEM methods.
• Contribute to integration flow and process improvements of mechanical tools and non-flight hardware.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Lead toward a manager-track role as the group expands.
