Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for the third shift at Devens, MA. You will own third‑shift manufacturing activities and be the magnet owner for the shift, accountable for process performance, quality, and production output.

You will collaborate with design, production, quality, and supply chain to design, implement, and optimize processes. Responsibilities include real‑time decision making, process analysis to reduce costs, and leading Lean/Six Sigma

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering field required or related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma and quality systems.
  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Make real-time decisions within guardrails and escalate when needed.
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce cost and improve quality.
  • Develop and maintain process docs: work instructions, SOPs, and flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate with design and development teams for manufacturability of new products.
  • Lead tooling, fixtures, and equipment design/procurement for efficient production.

Full-time, On-site, Devens, MA

Shift: Monday through Friday, 10:00 pm - 6:30 am

Salary: $126,000-$212,000/year (includes 15% shift differential)

We are seeking a hands‑on, detail‑oriented, innovative, and results‑driven Manufacturing Engineer to own third‑shift manufacturing activities. You will be the magnet owner for the shift, accountable for process performance, quality, and production output. This role partners closely with design, production, quality, and supply chain to design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes.

What You'll Do
  • Make real‑time decisions within established guardrails and elevate when conditions fall outside defined limits
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce cost, increase efficiency, and ensure product quality
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including work instructions, SOPs, and process flow diagrams
  • Collaborate with product design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance production performance
  • Lead design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment for efficient production
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and implement corrective actions
  • Conduct time and motion studies to optimize production methods and labor utilization
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and roll out best practices across the facility
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Evaluate new technologies and automation solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing or production engineering roles
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems
  • Proficient in CAD (NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) and manufacturing ERP systems
  • Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation and lead through hands‑on engagement
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
Bonus Points For
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)
Must-have Requirements / Physical Demands
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to type, stand, stoop, and sit for extended periods
  • Dedication to safety working around hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights, weekends, or be on‑call
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $126,000-$212,000/year (includes 15% shift differential) + equity + benefits. Actual salary depends on level, location, qualifications, and experience.
