Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical Metrology (Starlink) to lead supplier development for high-precision mechanical components and metrology systems.

You will drive GD&T, PC-DMIS, CMM/OMM integration, and AI-enabled measurement solutions across Starlink programs. You will collaborate with SpaceX engineering, quality, and supply chain teams, guiding fixture design, PPAP/FAI, and GR&R studies while ensuring on-time qualification and ramp milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, metrology, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in mechanical metrology, precision manufacturing, or supplier development.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end supplier development for mechanical metrology and high-precision components from supplier selection to ramp.
• Engage suppliers on equipment selection and process engineering for high-volume manufacturing.
• Provide guidance on metrology methods, GD&T, datum schemes, PC-DMIS, and AI-powered metrology.
• Design and qualify precision measurement fixtures and ensure measurement system stability.
• Assess supplier capabilities, GR&R, uncertainty budgets, and process windows for tight-tolerance parts.
• Lead PPAP/FAI, GR&R studies, and production ramps to enable full-rate manufacturing.
• Develop qualification plans covering dimensional validation, surface analysis, CMM/OCM correlation, and environmental testing.
• Drive continuous improvement via Lean, supplier scorecards, audits, and root-cause analysis.
• Provide reactive quality support and field-feedback to design/process teams.
