Job summary

YO AI Labs is seeking experienced Senior Metallurgists and Welding Inspectors for a remote, contractor role. You will evaluate materials, welds, coatings, and LPBF AM components for AI training, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in metallography, welding inspection, and coating assessment, with strong knowledge of AMS/ASTM/AWS/NADCAP/NACE/AMPP/SSPC standards and AWS CWI certification preferred. Excellent communication and independent work skills required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years evaluating micrographs, welds, coatings or AM components.
• Strong knowledge of ASTM/AMS/AWS/NADCAP/NACE/AMPP/SSPC standards.
• AWS CWI certification or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in metallography, heat treatment, welding inspection, and coating.
• Knowledge of LPBF additive manufacturing is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate metallographic microstructures for material acceptance and compliance.
• Review heat treatment processes according to AMS 2750 and ASTM E112.
• Assess weld quality via macro etch evaluation and CWI criteria.
• Conduct coating inspections per NACE/AMPP and SSPC.
• Review LPBF additive manufacturing defects and dispositions.
• Provide clear documentation and technical reasoning for accept/reject decisions.
• Apply relevant ASTM/AMS/AWS/NADCAP/NACE/AMPP/SSPC standards.
