Job summary

Bala Consulting Engineers seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineering Department Manager for the Arlington, VA area. Lead Washington, DC area mechanical engineering efforts, oversee staff, and advance enterprise-wide processes.

Required: 10+ years in mechanical design (MEP), PE license, strong writing, and building-code expertise. Familiar with Revit; remote work option limited to one day per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of mechanical design/MEP experience.
• Strong leadership and supervisory experience.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Expert knowledge of building codes.
• Knowledge of sustainable certification programs.
• Proficiency with Revit and BIM software.
• Self-motivated with multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement operational and technical processes.
• Review and evaluate forward-thinking building system designs.
• Serve as engineering leader and technical expert for staff questions.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes and procedures for staff to use.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for projects.
• Check accuracy of work and methods used by staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with managers, suppliers and contractors.
• Prepare and deliver engineering presentations internally and externally.
• Manage department activities: recruitment, hiring, coaching, leadership.
