Job summary

SYSTRA USA is expanding its Greater NYC Area presence and seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Seller/Doer) to lead mechanical building systems design for complex infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

You will engage NYCHA, SCA, and MTA stakeholders, defining scopes and pursuing strategic MEP opportunities. The role blends technical leadership with business development, requiring PE licensure in NY/NJ, 10+ years of experience, and a strong track record with public sector

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Active PE registration in NY/NJ preferred with reciprocity capability.
• 10+ years in mechanical building systems & facility design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Strong track record with Greater NYC public agencies (SCA, NYCHA, MTA).
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (MEP), plus TRACE/HAP software suites.
• Deep knowledge of NYC Building Code, NYS Energy Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and transit/education facility design criteria.
• Excellent PM, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical building systems engineering for complex infrastructure projects.
• Interface with NYCHA, NYC SCA, MTA, and other agencies to define needs and secure MEP work.
• Define mechanical scope, fees, and proposals for strategic pursuits in public housing, education, and rail sectors.
• Oversee detailed engineering calculations, load modeling, and mechanical design for transit facilities.
• Collaborate with signals, traction power, structure, and architecture teams for integrated solutions.
• Prepare and review technical drawings, design manuals, specs, and reports per guidelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers as the MEP practice expands.
• Conduct site assessments in rail environments, schools, and housing complexes.
