Job summary

IDEAYA Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated discovery medicinal chemist in South San Francisco to drive drug discovery programs. You will contribute to choosing target molecules and delivering clinical candidates in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

This on-site role reports to the Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry and requires five days per week in the office, with a strong emphasis on cross-functional teamwork and rigorous scientific standards.

Qualifications

• PhD in synthetic organic chemistry with pharma experience.
• Strong expertise in asymmetric reactions and cross-coupling.
• Excellent record-keeping and data integrity.
• Proven productivity delivering complex targets in lab pace.
• Ability to scale new chemistry and troubleshoot issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team.
• Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Knowledge of SAR-driven design and ADME/pharmacology basics.
• Commitment to continuous learning in drug discovery.

Responsibilities

• Apply modern synthetic techniques to advance oncology programs.
• Design reaction sequences and minimize purifications.
• Troubleshoot transformations and gather data quickly.
• Plan and multitask in and out of the lab.
• Deliver molecules from 10 mg to >25 g scale.
• Help manage external synthetic resources for productivity.
• Use SAR and structure-based design to propose targets.
• Present results clearly in various forums.
