Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks Medical Technologists (MT I/II) to support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical lab. Responsibilities include specimen processing, routine and specialized testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and staff training.

Minimum education includes a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and ASCP BOC certification or equivalent; new hires must certify within one year. This is a PRN, on-site laboratory position with MUHA affiliation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline is required.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent or relevant specialty lab certification.
• Primary source verification of successful completion is required by MUHA HR.
• New employees: certification must be obtained within the first year; starting salary reduced 10% until certification.
• Current MLT employees: reclassification to MT after MLS registry completion.
• MT II requires more than one year of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs sample assessment, receiving, accessioning, processing, and testing to support accurate patient results (60%).
• Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and competency activities (20%).
• Actively participates in teaching and training of staff, students and residents (10%).
• Additional tasks as assigned by management (10%).
• Ensure proper interpretation, documentation and notification of results; adhere to policies.
