The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Role

The Senior MSL is a field-based position responsible for establishing and maintaining scientific and clinical relationships with medical professionals, researchers, and the scientific community in the therapeutic area of Sleep Medicine/Neuroscience. Senior MSLs mentor and manage projects while aligning with therapeutic focus areas. Collaborating with the National Director and other leadership, the team ensures compliant, effective scientific communication and education about disease states of interest to Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

1. Provide scientific exchange and communication regarding FDA-approved and pipeline products.
2. Support the Medical Science Liaison team’s objectives for FDA-approved products.
3. Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with opinion leaders on disease states and product information.
4. Facilitate scientific development of pipeline compounds and secure company presence in designated therapeutic areas.
5. Support clinical research activities sponsored by Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
6. Serve as primary liaison for investigators interested in investigator-initiated research.
7. Collaborate closely with Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Clinical Development teams.
8. Report adverse events per company policy to ensure product safety.
9. Support Medical Affairs activities at conferences and scientific sessions.
10. Develop solutions to problems, understand action-result relationships, and meet customer needs.
11. Mentor peers and demonstrate leadership in managing cross-functional projects and geographical responsibilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Effective communication of scientific data to internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of geography and key opinion leaders preferred.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based scientific personnel.
• Ability to build trust and relationships with opinion leaders.
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach; ability to network with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel up to 60% of work days.

Education and Licenses

• Advanced doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 3 years of MSL or similar experience.
• Preference for experience in Sleep Medicine; other backgrounds like Neurology or Psychiatry considered.
