Job summary

Koniag Advisory Business is seeking a Medical Records Technician Coder V to support the BA IHS system in Wolf Point, MT. The role analyzes medical records for completeness, assigns CPT/HCPCS/DSM codes, and ensures accurate E/M level application to optimize healthcare operations.

You'll work within a Health Information Management team, protect PHI, manage releases of information, and maintain compliance with AHIMA/AMA guidelines. A Public Trust is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6+ years of medical coding/health information management experience.
• Completed an accredited Health Information Management or Medical Coding program.
• Current medical coding certification (CCS, CPC, or equivalent preferred).
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and DSM coding systems.
• Understanding of AHIMA and AMA coding guidelines.
• Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative analysis of medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Assign CPT/HCPCS/CDT/DSM codes in accordance with AHIMA and AMA guidelines.
• Ensure proper Evaluation & Management (E&M) levels are applied.
• Sequence diagnostic and procedural terminology accurately.
• Ensure compliance with official coding conventions and regulations.
• Scan medical documents into electronic patient records.
• Protect and maintain confidentiality of PHI.
• Process Release of Information (ROI) requests from patients and authorized entities.
• Update patient registration pages and verify third-party information.
• Obtain Medicare secondary payer signatures as required.
• Answer incoming telephone calls and verify patient eligibility.
• Maintain accurate logs of work completed.
• Collaborate with Health Information Management (HIM) supervisors.
• Ensure continuous service coverage and communicate staffing needs.
