Job summary

VB Spine in Leesburg, VA is seeking a Staff Packaging Engineer to lead the packaging design and development for sterile and non-sterile devices. You will create packaging concepts, write specifications, and work with cross‑functional teams to meet aggressive timelines in a fast-paced R&D environment.

The role requires a BS in packaging/engineering, 4+ years in packaging design, 2+ years CAD experience (SolidWorks or Creo), and knowledge of QSR and medical device standards.

Qualifications

• BS in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Quality Engineering, or Microbiology.
• 4+ years packaging design and development experience, preferably medical devices.
• 2+ years CAD experience (SolidWorks or Creo).
• Solid knowledge of QSR and medical device packaging standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and management of packaging procedures, design rules, and guidelines.
• Create advanced packaging designs from concept to release with CAD documentation.
• Develop and maintain component specifications for packaging levels and testing protocols.
• Collaborate with product development to define optimal packaging solutions and manage multiple projects.
• Design and validate cases and trays for transportation and terminal sterilization.
• Identify packaging options and support cost-reduction initiatives.
• Contribute to DFMEA/PFMEA related to packaging with cross-functional teams.
• Work with suppliers to ensure manufacturability and integration with VB Spine operations.
