Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Coder 2 to join its Coding Department. Under supervision, you will review medical records, assign ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and use encoder systems to determine MS-DRG/APC groupers.

You will abstract data into billing systems and ensure accuracy before finalizing encounters. Ideal candidates have a CCS credential, strong anatomy knowledge, and at least two years of acute care coding experience.

Qualifications

• Hold AHIMA CCS certification as proof of coding expertise.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding sequence and guidelines.
• Strong anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology knowledge for accurate coding.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Minimum two years of acute care coding experience, ideally in Trauma 1 or large hospital.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough review of medical records to assign diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Use encoder system to sequence codes and calculate MS-DRG/APC groupers.
• Abstract patient information into billing systems ensuring data integrity.
• Query clinicians with CDI team for documentation clarifications as needed.
• Adhere to Medicare/Managed Care coding regulations and CPT/ICD guidelines.
• Maintain quality and productivity standards under supervision and guide junior staff.
