Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a qualified Medical Coder to join our team. The role focuses on accurate coding and coding audits to support providers across our network.

You will work in a telecommuting capacity within the United States, handling CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-10 coding guidelines while upholding HIPAA standards and professional service. Required qualifications include AAPC certification, CPC or RHIT, and at least two years of primary care coding experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma / GED.
  • Completion of an AAPC approved coding certification program.
  • CPC or RHIT certification.
  • At least 2 years of coding experience in a Primary Care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coding and coding auditing services for providers.
  • Translate medical diagnoses and procedures into CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant handling of protected health information.
  • Train physicians and clinical staff on coding policies.
  • Stay current with coding guidelines and federal regulations.
  • Represent the company professionally and ensure compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate commitment to superior customer service, including quality and care and concern with each internal and external customer
  • Represents the Company in a professional manner, following all Company policies and procedures
  • Uses, protects, and discloses patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Complies with all aspects of Coding and Corporate Compliance standards
  • Abides by all ethical standards and adheres to official coding guidelines
  • Conducts physician chart audits (includes research and presentation)
  • Assists with implementation of billing policies and procedures in all centers
  • Assists with formal training programs for physicians and clinical staff by determining training needs
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines and relevant federal regulations using current CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-10 materials, the Federal Register, and other pertinent materials
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs, conferences, etc
  • Jobs in this function provide coding and coding auditing services directly to providers. This includes the analysis and translation of medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes. *Employees in jobs labeled with 'SCA' must support a government Service Contract Act (SCA) agreement

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $24.00 to $43.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
