Job summary

OMSNIC in Illinois seeks an experienced Claims Manager to lead and develop a team of claims professionals in medical professional liability. You will set standards, oversee high-severity matters and report to the Director of Claims, while balancing hybrid work between home and in-person collaboration.

This role requires a JD or bachelor's degree, 7+ years handling medical liability claims and 2–5 years in leadership, with strong negotiation, communication and regulatory compliance skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; JD preferred.
• Minimum 7 years' experience handling medical professional liability claims.
• 2–5 years' management or mentoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development, integration and implementation of departmental objectives.
• Oversee the investigation, evaluation and resolution of medical professional liability claims.
• Identify potential high-severity claims and provide active oversight.
• Analyze and oversee resolution of coverage issues for team members.
• Audit claim files to ensure best practices and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct monthly reserve meetings.
• Apply expertise by managing occasional high-profile claims.
• Provide timely reporting to the Director of Claims and present materials to the Board-level Claims Committee.
• Coach, train and mentor staff; lead weekly team meetings.
