OMS National Insurance Company (OMSNIC) seeks a Claims Manager to lead and develop a team of Claims Analysts in a hybrid role combining home-based focus with in-person collaboration. The role reports to the Director of Claims and impacts surgeons protected by the specialty-focused insurer.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in medical professional liability claims with 2–5 years in leadership, strong negotiation and written communication, and proficiency in MS Office and claims systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; JD preferred.
• Minimum 7 years' experience handling medical professional liability claims.
• 2–5 years' management or mentoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development, integration and implementation of departmental objectives.
• Oversee investigation, evaluation and resolution of medical professional liability claims.
• Identify potential high-severity claims and provide active oversight.
• Analyze and oversee resolution of coverage issues for team members.
• Audit claim files to ensure best practices and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct monthly reserve meetings.
• Provide timely reporting to the Director of Claims and Board-level Committee.

OMS National Insurance Company (OMSNIC) is a nationally recognized medical professional liability insurer dedicated exclusively to protecting oral and maxillofacial surgeons and dental specialists. We are seeking an experienced medical professional liability claims leader to join OMSNIC as Claims Manager. Reporting to the Director of Claims, you will lead and develop a team of skilled Claims Analysts. This position offers a hybrid schedule, giving you the flexibility to balance focused work from home with in-person collaboration with your team.

As Claims Manager, you will set the standard for how claims are handled, oversee high-severity matters, and develop a team of skilled claims professionals. Because OMSNIC focuses on one specialty, your work directly affects the surgeons we protect and is visible to senior leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Claims and department oversight

• Oversee the development, integration and implementation of departmental objectives
• Oversee the investigation, evaluation and resolution of medical professional liability claims
• Identify potential high-severity claims and provide active oversight
• Analyze and oversee resolution of coverage issues for team members
• Audit claim files to ensure best practices and technical and regulatory compliance
• Conduct monthly reserve meetings
• Apply expertise directly by managing occasional high-profile claims
• Provide timely reporting to the Director of Claims and present materials to the Board-level Claims Committee

Team leadership

• Set performance expectations, provide regular feedback and conduct annual reviews
• Coach, train and mentor staff, including in negotiating favorable resolutions
• Lead weekly team meetings and delegate authority appropriately
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including business writing
• Solid organizational and interpersonal skills
• A creative problem solver who can analyze and interpret complex information
• A leader who can motivate and delegate effectively
• Strong negotiation skills and sound, confident decision-making
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with claims and imaging systems
• Discretion with confidential information and the flexibility to adapt as priorities and the organization evolve
• A commitment to continuing industry education

Education and Experience
