Job summary

Baton Rouge General Medical Center is seeking a Billing Specialist to support electronic and paper claims submission, focus on reference lab billing and insurance follow-up. The role requires accuracy, strong data entry, and knowledge of billing compliance.

You will review and submit billing forms, maintain account balances, and coordinate with payers to resolve discrepancies. A high school diploma is preferred, with opportunities for a partially remote schedule after 6 months.

Qualifications

• Experience with medical billing, claims processing, and insurance follow-up.
• Knowledge of claim submission processes, billing compliance, and payer requirements.
• Strong data entry and typing skills (minimum 45 WPM; ten key by touch preferred).
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• High school diploma preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare billing forms for electronic and paper claims submission.
• Submit claims electronically and process paper claims as needed.
• Enter documentation, adjustments, and updates into billing systems to maintain accurate account balances.
• Review accounts for charge discrepancies and complete rebilling requests promptly.
• Monitor outstanding balances and conduct insurance follow-up for anesthesia and reference lab billing accounts.
• Maintain records, reports, and daily production logs; evaluate account activity.
• Communicate with internal departments and external payers to resolve billing issues.
• Ensure compliance with billing regulations, internal policies, and HIPAA requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
