Job summary

PHI Health seeks a Medical Billing Specialist in Phoenix, AZ to manage follow-up and collections, patient accounts and payor reimbursements. You will identify and address denials, draft appeals, and communicate with insurers to secure timely payments.

Collaborate with the PFS team to resolve claims in a timely and accurate manner while upholding PHI policies and payer contracts, ensuring high service quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must have completed high school diploma (or GED).
• Must have knowledge of general office procedures and PC skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and medical billing software.
• Experience with email and web-based systems preferred.
• Some college preferred.
• Must pass pre-placement drug test and background screen.
• This position is designated Safety Sensitive under AZ law.

Responsibilities

• Act as a patient advocate to obtain information and support for claims processing and balance resolution.
• Analyze billing, collections and payer trends; report to management with solutions.
• Draft and submit 1st level appeals for denials; escalate as needed.
• Contact insurers to obtain timely payments and escalate issues.
• Organize work to support production goals and prioritize actions.
• Handle patient calls for collections and discuss payment plans or charity options.
• Maintain professional relationships with providers, payers and patients.
• Review explanations of benefits and ensure contract compliance in payments.
• Train and support PFS Billing staff as needed.
